What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is made of pure titanium or titanium alloy, and has almost the same size and shape of the root of a tooth.

It is inserted into the bone where a tooth is missing. It is bio-compatible with bone and integrates fully within it, creating an extremely strong bond. This is called osseointegration.

If you are missing one tooth, or many teeth, we can replace your teeth easily.

The whole procedure takes only a few minutes for a single tooth and up to an hour for multiple implants .We use new procedures and system protocols that do not require any incision of the gums.

If the shape of your face is changing due to tooth loss, or you are wearing a removable denture and wish you never did, then implants may be for you. Implants can be an alternative to dentures or can greatly increase the stability of these dentures.

In cases where there is a lack of bone, we use the new and exciting Nobel Guide software, where a CT scan of the jaw is converted to show anatomical details of the bone, for perfect alignments and positioning of the implants with the help of a "guide" specially ordered for individual cases, making the procedure of advanced cases so much safer, easier and faster. Implants are the modern way of permanently replacing missing teeth. It all began in 1952, when Professor Branemark of Lund, in Sweden found that titanium screws used in the bones of rabbits could not be removed when they had healed.

He realised then, that the bone "integrated" titanium, and of course, after years of previous trials by surgeons all over the world with many different types of materials, the use of titanium became obvious for Dental Implants. The Branemark Institute of Implantology was then developed and the company producing the Implants is Nobel Biocare. Dental Implants have now been in use for over 30 years.

Dr Fareeda Daar has more than 13 years of experience in Dental Implant treatment. She has had training in advanced surgical techniques at the Branemark Institute in Sweden and keeps abreast with development by attending courses and conferences worldwide. She has the fellowship of the International Congress of Osseointegration( ICOI) and has a Certificate in Implantology as part of the MSc programme of the University of Warwick.

Between 1996 and 1999, she worked in a private hospital in Oman as a Consultant in Dental and Oral Surgery, during which time she introduced Dental Implants for the first time in that country and worked mainly in implant treatment.
